Your hymen is a ring-like structure located at the entrance of your vagina. While often referred to as a membrane, it doesn’t cover your uterine entry entirely, nor is it like a curtain or wall. It has a hollow cavity that is open to allow for both intercourse and menstrual blood.

It can get damaged and bleed upon intercourse. However, not always – especially if it happens to be flexible. Hymenoplasty is popular for esthetic reasons, or, in some countries, cultural reasons. It can be done under local or general anesthesia. Hymenoplasty comes in two main forms: permanent and temporary hymen suturing. They generally have short recovery periods. If done right and carefully, you would experience no problems after the surgery.
